Kianjai (Kia) Huggan works to advance access to computer science and engineering through the development of innovative educational technology. A graduate of the UConn CSE program and M.Eng in Global Entrepreneurship (MEGE), as well as the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Learning Design, Innovation, and Technology program, she designs integrated hardware and software systems that enable learners to build practical engineering skills.
Her work in embedded systems engineering includes the creation and management of microcontroller‑based educational products that combine circuitry, firmware, and programming to support hands‑on learning. These products have been implemented across diverse contexts in the United States, Asia, and the Caribbean, expanding participation in applied computer science and engineering.
In 2021, in response to inequities highlighted by the rapid shift to online learning during the COVID‑19 pandemic, Huggan founded Webquity, a company developing digital accessibility technologies for learners with visual processing differences, including dyslexia, and other neurodivergent needs. She continues this work through AI‑enabled learning companions that explore how emerging technologies can enhance understanding and agency in education. Since 2022, she has collaborated with the UConn College of Engineering through Senior Design, mentoring student teams in impact‑driven engineering projects via Webquity.
Huggan also serves as a Technical Product Manager at McGraw Hill, contributing to AI‑driven and personalized digital learning products at scale.
