Wednesday, October 16th, 2024
10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Center for Clean Energy Engr. (C2E2) - Depot Campus
Dr. Hu leads lead an energy materials research group at Yale University, with a mission to address the CO2 challenge. Our current research interests include (1) ultrahigh-temperature synthesis of new materials and their use in advanced energy devices, (2) solid-state batteries for transportation and the grid, and (3) wood nanoscience and nanotechnologies.
He will share his group’s development of two electrified ultrahigh-temperature synthesis methods (Joule
heating and ultrahigh temperature plasma) for discovering and manufacturing new energy and environmental
materials. -

“Data Science to Address the Health Impacts of Climate Change”
Please join us for an in-person Teale lecture, on Thursday, October 17 at 4:00pm in the Konover Auditorium in the Dodd Center for Human Rights on the UConn Storrs campus.
Adapted from Dr. Dominici’s website (https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/profile/francesca-dominici/):
Dr. Francesca Dominici is the Clarence James Gamble Professor of Biostatistics, Population and Data Science at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Director of the Harvard Data Science Initiative at Harvard University. She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and of the International Society of Mathematical Statistics. In 2024, she was named by TIME100 Health as one of the most influential scientists in global health in the world. Before being appointed founding Director of the Harvard Data Science Initiative, she was Senior Associate Dean for Research at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Dominici is also the founder and lead Principal Investigator (PI) for the National Studies on Air Pollution and Health Group (NSAPH), as well as a co-founding PI and leader for the BUSPH-HSPH Climate Change and Health Research Coordinating Center, CAFÉ.
Dr. Dominici’s research has focused on machine learning, Artificial Intelligence, causal inference, and data science to impact climate and environmental policy. Her air pollution studies have directly and routinely impacted air quality policy, leading to more stringent ambient air quality standards in the U.S.A. Her work has been covered by the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the BBC, the Guardian, CNN, and NPR.
Among her most recent awards, she was recognized as the Mosteller Statistician of the Year by the Boston Chapter of the American Statistical Association in 2022. The award is given to a distinguished statistician who has made exceptional contributions to the field of statistics and outstanding service to the statistical community.
Although the talk will be in-person, it is also available to watch (live) on Kaltura. The live stream link is on the Teale Series web page: https://cese.uconn.edu/the-edwin-way-teale-lecture-series/

DOE-NSF Workshop on Digital Twins for Manufacturing All Day
DOE-NSF Workshop on Digital Twins for Manufacturing
Monday, November 11th, 2024
All Day
IPB
This workshop aims to accelerate the digital transformation of manufacturing systems through the use of Digital Twins. Participants will explore the latest advancements in modeling, simulation, AI integration, and more. The event will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, and interactive sessions designed to foster collaboration and innovation.
High-level Goals of the Workshop
• Accelerate digital transformation of manufacturing enterprise systems through “what-if” scenarios using digital representation of physical assets (Digital Twins) to optimize products, processes, and production across the lifecycle.
• Develop open innovation ecosystem for manufacturing digital transformation using DTs to enable all stakeholders – from small and medium-sized enterprises to large OEMs – to contribute and benefit from common and repeatable solutions.
• Enable U.S leadership in digital transformation of manufacturing – both in hardware and software and through education, workforce and skills development.Contact Information:
