Brief Bio

Ji Ho Jeon joined our school as an Assistant Professor in August 2024. He earned his B.S. in Automotive Engineering from the University of Bath in 2014, followed by a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Seoul National University (SNU) in 2021. He further advanced his academic career as a postdoctoral fellow at SNU from 2021 to 2022 and as a research engineer at the Georgia Institute of Technology from 2023 to 2024.

Dr. Jeon’s research spans a diverse range of areas, including high-rate and large-scale composite manufacturing processes, the recycling and repair of composite materials, and metal-composite joining techniques. His work on composite materials focuses on addressing sustainability and environmental challenges by leveraging extremely long discontinuous fiber composites, incorporating both synthetic and natural fibers. Additionally, he has expanded his research portfolio to include innovative hybrid surface post-processing for additively manufactured metal parts, achieved through the integration of electrochemical polishing with cavitation peening.

Current Projects

NSF IRES: Exploring Innovations in Hydrogen Technologies at the Hydrogen Ship Technology Center in Republic of Korea

This project provides U.S. students with a ten-week international research experience at the Hydrogen Ship Technology Center (HSTC) at Pusan National University in South Korea, one of the few global hubs with infrastructure and expertise for liquid hydrogen transportation. Students work alongside Korean researchers and are co-mentored by faculty from UConn and PNU, gaining technical skills and international collaboration experience. Research spans fuel cell performance, cryogenic storage, material degradation under hydrogen exposure, and recovery of cold energy from boil-off gas, combining full-scale experiments, material testing, and modeling to advance technologies for zero-emission vehicles in shipping, aviation, and heavy-duty logistics.
