Michael Lamont

Mike Lamont leads HDR’s Major Bridges program and is a principal professional associate with 33 years of experience. He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from UConn in 1991, and is a registered professional engineer in 17 U.S. states and two Canadian provinces, as well as a registered structural engineer in Washington and Oregon.

Lamont has extensive complex bridge engineering experience across North America, including cable-stayed bridges, concrete and steel arches, segmental box girders, and complex bridge-load rating. He has served as superstructure design leader on two award-winning signature cable-stayed bridge projects, each delivered using design-build; and has focused most of his career on the design and construction engineering of major cable-stayed bridges.

Lamont is an industry-recognized leader in balancing aesthetic features and signature bridge architecture into long-span bridge design with cost and constructability. He has participated in numerous complex design-build and construction engineering projects, many of which used innovative construction techniques. He recently led HDR’s design of the iconic cable-supported I-395 Signature Bridge in Miami, Florida, currently under construction, as Engineer of Record; and has had lead design roles on major long-span bridge projects such as: the Burnside Bridge Replacement project in Portland, OR; the St. Croix River Crossing project in Minneapolis; the new Tappan Zee Hudson River Crossing project in New York; the new Port Mann Bridge in Vancouver, BC; and the new Tilikum Crossing bridge in Portland, OR.
