Martin C. Wei

Dr. Wei received his Bachelor of Science degree (1971) in Electrical Engineering, Master of Science (1973) and Ph.D. (1978) degrees in Computer Science from the University of Connecticut. He was the recipient of the 1995 University of Connecticut Distinguished Engineering Alumni award and was inducted into the University of Connecticut Academy of Distinguished Engineers in 2011.

Dr. Martin Wei has over 50 years of experience in software development, technical management and general management in the fields of computer systems, telecommunications, networking, and system integrations. He held positions such as the Member of Technical Staff, Technical Manager, Senior Director, Group Vice President, General Manager and President in companies such as IBM, Bell Labs, Recal-Milgo, Fribronics/Spartacus, Axonet, and Marketech International Corporation. He is currently serving as an Independent Director on the Board of Directors of Asix Electronics in Taiwan. He had five previous startups and a strong track record of building companies and delivering over 20 commercially successful products. Dr. Wei is also the recipient of five international patents in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

In 1978, at Bell Labs, he was one of the principal architects and the development manager for AT&T’s first all-digital PBX system, System 75 (Predecessor of the current Avaya Definity ECS). He invented the framework of using object-oriented technology for self-monitoring and fault diagnosis for PBX Switching system. He coined the term “Maintenance Object” in 1981 and this concept has since influenced the development of telecommunication’s operation support and IT infrastructure monitoring systems until today.

Dr. Wei is currently retired and enjoying his retirement life with wife, Dr. Beatrice Sun Wei  (Ph.D. UConn Physics, 1978) in Taiwan and Seattle area.
