Xin Shen

Xin Shen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Hartford, where he also serves as Program Director of the Computer and Electronic Engineering Technology (CEET) program. He will be promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in August 2026. Xin earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering under the supervision of Professor Bahram Javidi from the University of Connecticut in 2018, where his doctoral research focused on three-dimensional (3D) image sensing and augmented reality visualization. During his time at UConn, he served as Vice President of both the SPIE and Optica (formerly OSA) student chapters.

Shen’s research spans optical sensing, computational imaging, and intelligent information processing, with applications in advanced visualization and emerging technologies. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and serves as Conference Co-Chair of the SPIE Three-Dimensional Imaging, Visualization, and Display Conference.

At the University of Hartford, Shen is committed to advancing engineering education through hands-on, project-based learning and the integration of artificial intelligence into the curriculum. He leads program development and ABET accreditation efforts, and also mentors students across multiple engineering disciplines. As faculty advisor to the IEEE Student Branch, he promotes student engagement in professional development and innovation. His work has been recognized with NASA Connecticut Space Grant awards, the Outstanding Junior Faculty Award, and the Outstanding Program Director Award.
