M.S., Materials Science and Engineering, University of Connecticut (’13)

Salay Quaranta is a distinguished engineer, executive, and advisor whose career exemplifies excellence in manufacturing, laser technology, and materials science. With more than two decades of experience, she has driven innovation across the medical, dental, aerospace, and precision engineering sectors, channeling her self-described “laser nerd” passion into advancing new materials, applications, and processes. She earned her B.S. and M.S. degrees in materials science and engineering from UConn in 2009 and 2013, respectively.

Quaranta has held influential engineering and executive leadership roles, building high performing teams, leading organizational transformation, and managing portfolios exceeding $300 million in advanced capital equipment and technical services. Her work includes pioneering ultrafast laser blackmarking solutions for corrosion resistant, FDA compliant UDI codes, as well as commercializing advanced laser and machining systems that optimize material–laser interactions, throughput, and reliability.

At UConn, she served as president and secretary of the Material Advantage and MRS chapters and was later featured by the Society for Optics & Photonics and as a reviewer for the Journal of Laser Applications.

Quaranta’s impact spans the full innovation ecosystem – from developing laser based BLISK production processes with Rolls Royce at Fraunhofer ILT, to shaping next generation platforms at TRUMPF, and strengthening Connecticut’s advanced manufacturing landscape through Joining Technologies, Stanadyne, and CCAT.

A mother of three, Quaranta continues her multifaceted career as a business executive and materials scientist, Vice President of Strategic Accounts at Denali R&D Corporation, and owner of Q Business Solutions.
