James A. Fallon

James Fallon is currently the Chief Engineer of the Connecticut Department of Transportation, a position he has held since February 2025. In his current position, Fallon oversees approximately 1100 employees engaged in the design and construction of multi-modal transportation capital improvements. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and Fairfield University and holds an MBA from UConn in addition to his Bachelor of Science in civil engineering.

He has been with the Department since 1994 and has held a variety of positions in both engineering and capital planning. Prior to his current role, he was an Assistant Chief Engineer. Fallon is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Connecticut, a member of the College of Engineering Advisory Board at UConn and is a member of AASHTO’s Special Committee on Research and Innovation and Council on Highways and Streets.

Fallon and his wife Chris are residents of Berlin; his son Garrett is a senior at Georgetown and daughter Alexa is a sophomore at UConn. In his free time Fallon enjoys playing golf, supporting UConn sports teams, Yankees baseball, and Patriots football.
