The Management and Engineering for Manufacturing program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Manufacturing and Similarly Named Engineering Programs and Engineering Management and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.
Criterion 2: Program Educational Objectives (PEOs):
Our major will prepare its graduates to:
- Practice their profession with a rigorous connection to engineering and business knowledge, driven by a total enterprise vision, addressing ever-evolving real-world challenges with an innovative mindset.
- Progress towards leadership roles, applying manufacturing and engineering management principles to various products and processes while integrating diverse perspectives.
- Apply high professional standards and adapt to technological advances by engaging in life-long learning.
Criterion 3: Student Outcomes:
- An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
- An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
- An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
- An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
- An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
- An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
- An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
Program Criteria:
The program must include curricular content in the following areas:
- materials and manufacturing processes: design of manufacturing processes that result in products that meet specific material and other requirements;
- process, assembly and product engineering: equipment, tooling, and environment necessary for their manufacture;
- manufacturing competitiveness: creation of competitive advantage through manufacturing planning, strategy, quality, and control;
- manufacturing systems design: analyze, synthesize, and control manufacturing operations using statistical methods; and
- manufacturing laboratory or facility experience: measurement of manufacturing process variables and development of technical inferences about the process.
Additionally, the curriculum must include:
- the engineering relationships between the management tasks of planning, organization, leadership, control, and the human element in production, research, and service organizations;
- the stochastic nature of management systems; and
- integrating management systems into a series of different technological environments.
