Brief Bio

Dr. Genesis Quiles-Galarza is an Assistant Professor in Residence (APiR) in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Connecticut. She graduated with honors from UConn in 2016 with degrees in Chemical Engineering and German Studies. Upon graduation, she served as a Teach for America educator at Bulkeley High School in Hartford, CT, teaching 11th and 12th grade chemistry. After two years of serving the Hartford community, Genesis moved to Philadelphia, PA to pursue a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, where she worked in the Vojvodic lab, leveraging machine learning tools to predict catalytic properties of materials. Genesis defended her thesis, titled, “Identifying Material Fingerprints of Relevance to Understand Adsorbate-Surface Interactions Using First Principles Modeling and Machine Learning” in April 2024. In her role as APiR, she continues serving the students and community of Connecticut and leading teaching innovations in chemical engineering.

She is involved in professional organizations such as the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), the American Society for Engineering Education, and Ciencia Puerto Rico.
