Doug Young


Doug Young is sector vice president and general manager, Strike, Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems. In this role, he oversees the Strike division, which delivers highly survivable, long-range penetrating strike aircraft to support U.S. strategic deterrence. Young’s portfolio includes the B-21 Raider, the B-2 Spirit and other restricted and technology- development programs. Under Young’s leadership, the B-21 Raider team pioneered the use of digital engineering tools and technology to design and build the world’s first sixth-generation aircraft.

Joining Northrop Grumman in 1985 as a member of the B-2 Spirit development team, Young subsequently held roles of increasing responsibility in engineering, production, flight test and program leadership.

Young also has overseen development and operations of numerous manned space, launch and national security satellite programs, including the Space Tracking and Surveillance System demonstrators and the Defense Support program. As part of his leadership in Northrop Grumman’s space business, he led strategy and business development for programs such as the James Webb Space Telescope, the former National Polar-Orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System, Advanced Extremely High Frequency Protected communications satellite payloads, and other restricted programs.

Young earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Connecticut, and a master’s degree in systems management from the University of Southern California. He attended the executive Defense Systems Acquisition Program and the Wharton Advanced Management Program. He also is chairman emeritus of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Design Engineering Technical Committee.
