Brief Bio
Dr. Shengli Zhou is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Connecticut. His research interests focus on wireless communications and signal processing, particularly in areas like underwater acoustic communications and networking, multi-user and multicarrier communications, and adaptive modulation. He is also co-director of the UConn Underwater Sensor Network (UWSN) Lab. He holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota and B.S. and M.Sc. degrees from the University of Science and Technology of China.
Dr. Shengli Zhou has also engaged with public policy, providing testimony to the Connecticut General Assembly regarding a bill on disaggregating student data by ethnic or racial subgroups. He supported prohibiting mandatory data collection and separation by national origin or ethnicity but noted potential concerns about the bill's wording.
In the fall of 2009, Dr. Zhou was selected one of five recipients of the United Technologies Corporation (UTC) Professorship in Engineering Innovation award in the School of Engineering. After earning his Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota in 2002, Dr. Zhou joined the University of Connecticut in 2003. He was presented an Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Program (YIP) last year. The co-director of the UConn Underwater Sensor Network (UWSN) Lab, with Dr. Jun-Hong Cui, Dr. Zhou conducts research involving underwater acoustic communications and networking, multi-user communications, multi-carrier communications, space-time coding, adaptive modulation, and cross-layer designs for wireless systems.
